Collapsing pulse (also called water-hammer pulse) is a classic bedside finding, especially in aortic regurgitation and high-output states like anemia or thyrotoxicosis. . Don’t confuse it with bounding pulse (which may be strong but not collapsing).Don’t test in atrial fibrillation, the irregular rhythm makes it hard to appreciate. Your pulse ox says 98%. Everything’s fine… right? Not always. SpO₂ measures hemoglobin saturation, not how much oxygen is actually being delivered to tissues. A patient can have a normal SpO₂ and still be hypoxic in certain situations, like severe anemia or carbon monoxide poisoning. Understanding the difference between oxygen saturation and oxygen delivery is an important concept for nursing exams and clinical practice.
